Thanks to a friendly reminder from the staff at VELO, my friend and I attended the third annual "Bouchaine Wine Pairing Dinner" presented by Bouchaine Vineyard's winemaker, Michael Richmond and Bouchaine's Regional Sales Manager, Robert Fallon, a South Nyack
Last evening's repast and wine pairings were spectacular thanks to owner/chef, Anthony DeVanzo and Bouchaine's Vineyard in California!
Our starter course was Kumato Tomato and Watermelon Salad, Rare Seared Tuna Au Poivre with Brandy Scented Yogurt served with Rose of Syrah 2008. The rose was much more full bodied than I've experienced, but really delightful with the tuna and watermelon flavors.
Winemaker, Richmond, advised us that rose is much more complicated to make than any other wine. Who knew?
We then proceeded on to the Wild Mushroom and Goat Cheese Risotto...delightfully earthy! This course was matched with a Bouchaine's Estate Chardonnay 2008...one of my favorites!
Our main course was Roasted Quail with Sauteed Escarole, Duck Fat Home Fries surrounded by Blackberry Glace de Viande. The wine pairing for this incredible course was Beauchaine's Pinot Noir 2007. Again, a wonderful complement to the quail and blackberry glace.
Dessert was a decadent Baked Peach with Honey Sweetened Mascarpone, Toasted Almond and a sprinkling of Hawaiian sea salt. This was matched with Bouchaine's Bouche D'Or Late Harvest Chardonnay 2009...an absolutely lovely finish for an outstanding meal!
As we lingered over our dessert, Chef/Owner DeVanzo stepped out of the kitchen to take a final bow and also announced that he and his wife, Teresa, are expecting their first child in the very near future.
Velo is open Tuesday thru Saturday from 5 to 10pm and located at 12 North Broadway, Nyack
