Painting An Italianate Victorian House In Tappan

I first painted our 1860 Italianate Victorian house in 1970.  It was painted army green, with only the front door a different color-black.  I painted the house white, and the trim and newly-added shutters forest green.  Since then, I have painted the house four or five times, and frankly, it hasn't gotten any easier.  Both the house and the painter are now considerably older, and so the job has gotten harder.  This is especially true when I'm at the top of the ladder, about twenty five feet above the ground.  I've made a few mistakes over the years, from not scraping enough to not using primer on bare wood.  This time, things have gotten a little easier, as paint now comes with primer mixed in, thus allowing one coat.  I've already informed my wife that this will be the last time I do the painting- next time, I'll get a lawn chair, sit back with a book and beer, and watch the pros do it.
