Picking The Right Chicken Breed For Eggs Or Meat

I have a number of friends in Congers and the Nyack villages who are actually raising chickens in their yards so that they can have fresh eggs and meat that they know is free of growth hormones and other nasty chemicals that have invaded our food supplies.

Personally, I spent too much time as a child gathering eggs, being pecked for my efforts, catching chickens who would become "dinner," plucking feathers and pin feathers, cleaning them, and generally getting them ready to be cooked to ever want to raise my own, but I can truly appreciate my friends' dedication.

Today I found this link to an article on how to choose the right breed for whatever purpose one might have for their chickens and I thought it would be interesting to share.  So, here you go!
